Return Policies of the Home Depot that You Should Know

If you are looking for home improvement tools, then you could not miss out the Home Depot. In fact, Lowes and the Home Depot are one of the most famous places for everyone to find something for their home repairing.

And these have opened for decades with great experiences and solid reputation. In this article, I will show you the return policies when purchasing on the Home Depot initially. I will share something on my post at Lowes pretty soon.

How to return an item after purchasing

Mostly, new or unopened merchandise sold by The Home Depot could be replaced within 90 days of purchase. A special situation will be considered in the Return Policy Exceptions of the Home Depot system.

If your product was made with the Home Depot Customer credit card, or the Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge or the Home Depot Commercial Account, you will have 365 days to get a full refund (from the date of purchasing). Other unique cases will be noted in the Return Policy Exceptions.

Returns for purchases with ideal proof of buying will be exchanged, refunded in cash or credited to your account.

You also receive your refund through the Home Depot store credit as settled by the Home Depot. Refunds will be released to the original form of payment like PayPal, credit card, etc. With returns for purchases made with a gift card or a Store Credit will be refunded like a Store Credit.

In case you lost your receipt, you will be located your purchase in the Home Depot system. Receipts for purchases made with a debit card or a credit card will be checked in their system around 90 days (from the day of purchasing).

When you have receipt made with the Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, the Home Depot Commercial Account or the Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge, you will be considered the return in the system within 365 days.

Original shipping charges could be refunded in the situation which the return is the consequence of a mistake by the Home Depot. Other exceptions should be considered by the Home Depot, including Express Delivery and Major Appliance. Products should be returned with vital parts for a full refund at all.

Other copies of the Home Depot’s Return policy will be given upon request.

Return from a direct store

You should bring the product back with all parts to the store directly. Do not forget to keep a receipt and give it to the Customer Service Center or their Returns area to be processed in the Home Depot.

You should also bring your ID for non-receipt products and originally purchased with Store Credit.

With special order returns or cancellations, these should be paid 15% restocking fee and returned to the similar location like the original purchase.

Return through the Internet

If your order is entitled to online return case, you will receive a delivery label through email to print out. Thus, you should attach and put it on your return item at the UPS store or Dropbox. If you need further information, you could contact the Customer Service Center at 1-800-430-3376.

A customer service employee will help you get your UPS return started or give advice you do other options.

Other exceptions in the Home Depot’s policy

30-day return

Some items should be returned within 30 days of purchase such as furniture, mattresses, area drugs, generators, gas-powered equipment and tractors, consumer electronics (like TVs and computers).

On major appliance

Please note that major appliance items like fridges, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers, microwaves should be checked for damage or defects before shipping to customer’s house. If you see any malfunction, please contact the Home Depot customer center within 48 hours of shipping day through their telephone number (800) 455-3869.

On hazardous materials

To protect you and other people, hazardous materials should not be returned by the mail even these products are labeled safety such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, liquids, gases, etc. Please bring your items to a local Home Depot store straightly.

On plants

With trees, shrubs and perennials have at least 1-year guarantee, if you see dead plants or damaged ones after receiving, you should contact the Customer Service Center at 1-800-430-3376 around 3 days of delivery. The Home Depot will change another plant without charging. This policy is not available for cut flowers or floral arrangements cases.

With Bonnie plants with Miracle-Gro soils or plant foods, you often get a true harvest. If your plants do not give a good product in the course of the growing season, you are allowed to get a refund for your plant and Miracle-Gro purchase. This policy is available from January 1, 2018.

On paint products

If you do not satisfy with your exterior or interior liquid paint, you will need to bring your paint with the receipt back to the store within 30 days of purchase only. The Home Depot customer care will help you select the right product or the similar one. Please bear in mind that the Home Depot has the right not to accept your return request when they find out misuse or fraud.

Some items are not refundable by the Home Depot
